The 2024 Masters Events at Oxford saw an impressive gathering of global thought leaders in trauma and mental health. Held from 11-14 September at the historic Sheldonian Theatre, the event brought together more than 70 experts from around the world for four days of inspiring discussions and workshops.
Fiona Yassin and her team were proud to be a part of this incredible event. Known for her extensive experience with complex conditions like eating disorders and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), Fiona brought her expertise to two key presentations that struck a chord with attendees.
In her talk, “Families Uncovered: Exploring the Intersection of Borderline Personality Disorder and Trauma,” Fiona took a deep dive into the complexities of trauma and BPD and how they affect family dynamics. With a focus on practical strategies and compassionate insights, Fiona shared how trauma can both exacerbate BPD symptoms and complicate familial relationships. She explained how clinicians, family members, and support networks can better navigate these sensitive challenges to enable healing.
Her second presentation, “Navigating the Adolescent Mind: Insights from Experts in Polyvagal Theory, Trauma, Addiction, and Mental Health,” featured a collaboration with fellow experts Heather Hayes, BG Mancini, and Jon Goldin. Together, they tackled the various issues surrounding adolescent mental health, including how trauma and addiction often go hand-in-hand. With their combined knowledge of Polyvagal Theory and neuroscience, the panel offered unique approaches to helping teens regulate their emotions and build resilience in the face of adversity.
Reflecting on her participation, Fiona said, “Being part of the Masters Events at Oxford was an incredible opportunity to showcase the work we’re doing at The Wave Clinic. Our commitment to ‘Making Teen Treatment Sparkle’ has always been at the heart of what we do, and this event allowed us to share our passion for helping young people and their families overcome the challenges of trauma and eating disorders. We’re always learning, always pushing the conversation forward.”
The Wave Clinic’s Presence at the Conference
In addition to her presentations, Fiona and her team set up a stunning booth, where they showcased The Wave Clinic’s unique approach to treating eating disorders, trauma, and BPD in adolescents. The slogan “Making Teen Treatment Sparkle” was prominently displayed, reflecting Yassin’s dedication to providing young people with the help they need to achieve their treatment goals and thrive.
Visitors to the booth explored The Wave Clinic’s holistic programs, which combine cutting-edge treatments with compassionate care and sensitivity for each client. From EMDR therapy to support for families in high-conflict situations, The Wave Clinic’s services are designed to meet the complex needs of today’s adolescents.
